Great welsome, with good food and a selection of drinks. Both alcoholic and non- alcoholic. The pub puts on many events for the village: including breakfast with santa, bingo, coffee mornings etc.
-
A community pub which embodies what best about our Norfolk community. Run and supported by volunteers it’s the hub of the community with great events and keeps the alive.
-
Great community spirit. The pub is at the heart of this village and also has a vital volunteer-run shop, the only local retailer. Recent hard times have reinforced the community's resolve to make this a great local hub.
-
It’s the heart of our village. It’s where we can all come together and find company, regardless of how busy the pub is the staff always go out of their way to make you feel important and valued. It’s a community pub because we, the community, need it!

Community run pub and village hub , offering excellent food, drink, take out food and community social events. Warm welcome for holiday folks and boaters but focused on all round support for the locals needed for year round business. Lovely pub garden too and community shop !

Just a great welcoming pub
-
This is a community pub with a great community spirit. So many people in the village give so much of their own time to volunteer helping out with gardening, DIY, decorating, and with the many events that are held throughout the year. This would mean so much to them

Great pub, fantastic atmosphere, excellent food and drinks are served with a friendly smile.
-
Everyone is made to feel welcome.
-
The pub is the heart of the community, it’s provided so many jobs over the years for many people in the village, myself included. The food is delicious and comforting, plus the service is great! In the winter the fire is always on and there is a friendly face waiting to greet you. In the summer the pub is a hub of socialising and events like our beer festival. I couldn’t imagine this village without this pub, it deserves all the recognition for powering through covid and other tough times.
-
Warm friendly pub, excellent community spirit.

The atmosphere is great and the food is delicious.

Fantastic staff and a fantastic community
-
A pub that is truly at the heart of the community in a thriving Broadland village. The conjoined community shop is excellent, serving villagers and boaters from Upton dyke.
-
Warm welcome and huge community spirit. Something for everyone from coffee mornings for local groups to live music nights. From engaging and fun events for children to ‘Fright Night’ spectacular at Halloween. Quizzes, bingo, folk music nights, acoustic Fridays - there is something for everyone whether you are a local or a visitor. The White Horse also hosts our only shop, which is a lifeline to many older residents. And the food is delicious. It is the heart and soul of our village.
-
The White Horse really is the hub of the community. There is always a friendly welcome from the staff, for locals and visitors alike. The pub is so much more than a place to get great food and drink. It hosts many different clubs and groups, from walkers to quizzers.

-
We always visit this lovely pub when we are in the area. So welcoming and cosy - what a village pub should be. The food is delicious and not too expensive. We can't wait to visit again.
-
This pub is all about the community in every way. It's run, supported and owned by the village. It is quite literally the hub of the village.
-
Brilliant staff, ready volunteers, and always something being put on to encourage people to visit - a really diverse and creative environment all backed up with great beer and food! Combined with the shop (staffed by volunteers) it is an essential community hub.
-
The pub was in real financial trouble this time last year but a new board of directors and a group of volunteers has helped turn the pub around into a great community space. With monthly events to help bring in people to the pub and village. A new event for this year, an adults only fright night, an event that was beyond anyone’s imagination, the day time however over 45 children enjoyed free pumpkin carving, actives and even a tractor ride around the village.
-
The pub is community owned. It offers a wide range of events taking advantage of its large garden. The younger community members are not forgotten either with events like the summer beach party with it bouncy castle and beach for the weekend or the Halloween Craft Party where all the activities were free of charge. A good quality menu is on offer but at its heart, the White Horse is a pub that serves great food and isn’t a restaurant. The folks who want to come in for a drink and a chat are just as welcome as the diners.
-
Always a warm welcome great food drink and company

A friendly proper country pub, open fires, good ale & great food - all served by friendly and efficient staff. Perfect
-
Food is well thought out and presented and every meal I've eaten tastes amazing. Sunday roast and you can have a separate dish of the best cauli cheese! Staff are the friendliest I've ever met in a pub. Everyone has a smile for you. And beer is perfectly kept. Their events are crafted as well as the beer. Halloween this year included a zombie apocalypse composed of real cars from the scrapyard! Like nowhere else!
-
Friendly pub with good beer and food and a Great community spirit serving both locals and others. Staff always pleasant and lots of events to increase the appeal of the pub to a wide demographic.
-
The pub is a community pub. It serves great food at reasonable prices. The staff are welcoming and keep the beer well. This evening there was a welcoming log fire going 🔥
-
Not long ago, this community pub and village shop was facing closure due to severe mis management by the then directors. Only because of the input from village, holding a village meeting and agreeing that the pub would survive with input from the WHOLE VILLAGE and not just the shareholders were we able to turn it around. Not least because one villager was forward thinking enough to contact the local TV and radio resulting in a piece both on Anglia TV and Norfolk local radio. The pub now has new management (all volunteers) and together with the shop, run mostly by volunteers and open seven days a week, and together we have turned it around to become a well frequented and well known and loved local pub and shop.
-
Fantastic pub very friendly staff great food and a massive part of the village life the village would be dead if it wasn’t for this pub keeping the village alive
-
This pub is a critical part of the local community. It’s gone from nearly closing to now thriving. The team there have worked so hard that I truly believe they deserve the recognition. Most of whom are volunteers. Holding family events and delivering amazing food. It’s a testament to have this as part of the local community.
-
The White Horse is the heart of Upton life. A community pub run by a dedicated team of volunteers and staff. Live music is a regular feature and activities like bingo and quiz night add to the community feel. Friendly staff, great real ales and food at affordable prices. Perfect illustration of what "local" means in the term Local Pub. Run by locals. Local beers. Local food. Local vibe. Attractive to the full range of locals (quite a varied bunch!) and holidaymakers mixing it up in the bar, the restaurant or in the garden. Then there's the Beer Festival and The Winklefest ........... something for everyone
-
The Whitehorse is a brilliant community pub. It has rescued itself from the brink of death and made a tremendous comeback to become once again the hub of our wonderful village. The dedicated staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to bring back the spark and to engage the community, both locals and visitors, with a wide range of events and activities to suit everyone. The effort has not gone unnoticed. It also has a shop run mostly by volunteers, which is a lifeline for our elderly community. WELL DONE WH!!!

Norfolks first community pub, the White Horse is an incredible place to visit, unchanged for many years and it has such a unique atmosphere that most pubs struggle to achieve. This place is such a life line residents and travellers to enjoy a traditional pub. Bingo nights, dog walking get togethers, fundraising coffee mornings, quiz nights, beer festivals and many other music events. To be shortlisted will help raise our profile. PS prince Charles popped in once and we had him pulling pints.

This time last year it was looking like the community owned pub was going to close forever. But with an enormous effort from a new board and volunteers from the community they managed to turn it around. They have a good selection of real ales and local ciders served by friendly and helpful staff. The bingo and quiz nights are very popular and about once a month they have a cake and coffee morning with a raffle. All throughout the year there have been events, theme nights, festivals and the latest Halloween night was exceptionally good.

As well as offering a wide range of locally sourced food and drinks it provides regular live music, quiz nights, bingo, karaoke, jazz nights and folk sessions.
