The White Horse has been providing locals and visitors to Upton with a comfortable and friendly place to meet, relax and enjoy good food and drink for over 200 years.
In July 2012 the pub was puchased by the community with additional support from The Prince's Countryside Fund, Broadland Community Grants, Broadland Community Renewables and the Norfolk Community Foundation.
In February 2016 His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Patron of the Pub is the Hub and the Prince's Countryside Fund, visited the White Horse in Upton.
Prince Charles was presented with a White Horse loyalty card, displayed his skills behind the bar by pulling a pint, and unveiled a plaque to commemorate his visit.
Prince Charles, said: “I am extremely impressed with the level of community spirit that was shown by people here to save their pub.
"Projects like the Pub is the Hub was created with the intention to keep these rural pubs, and not only them but shops, post offices, banks and more. And I am happy to see how well the shop is doing."
The dedicated volunteers who help manage the pub, run the shop, look after the gardens, carry out general maintenance, organise fundraising events and much more have been recognised with a 2018 Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Peter Crook, company secretary, said: “The pub and shop have given a whole new dimension to this rural village community and to have this recognition is a huge bonus for the large group of people who have contributed in so many ways and we are all extremely proud."
