In light of the Prime Minister’s lockdown instruction last night, we are writing to inform you that we have no other option but to withdraw our takeaway service from the pub. Initially we hoped it would be an essential service to the Community following the closure of all pubs and restaurants.
The ‘Social Distancing’ element is crucial in fighting the spread of the disease and we consider the health and safety of our staff and customers to be our top priority during this Coronavirus emergency. However, despite the hard work of our staff and amazing response and support from you our customers, this latest Government rule makes it impossible for us to provide a service that is both safe and responsible and in line with the Government order.
We would like to thank all those customers who supported the service last weekend and especially during Mothering Sunday, but we are sure you’ll agree with us that we must as a Community adhere to the regulations.
As previously announced the Upton Community Shop will remain open and we are delighted to have been able to fill the shifts left vacant by those most vulnerable volunteers who are now self-isolating in line with government directives. This means we will try our best to stay open with the existing trading hours, but these may vary on a daily basis according to volunteer support availability.
We are also very pleased to announce that all our suppliers have agreed to deliver direct to the shop which again means we are not putting staff at risk in travelling to make stock purchases.
Regarding deliveries, we will ensure the most vulnerable and self-isolating villagers take priority. We are also working on dedicated morning and afternoon time slots.
When visiting the shop, we ask all customers to respect the new ‘social distancing’ guidelines and you will see we have made special distancing entrance and exit procedures. It is really important that we serve one customer at a time! The shop is a small space and therefore we cannot have several customers browsing or being served at any one time.
As a Community Interest enterprise, we are trying out best to stand by our mantra of Community First. We would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your support and patience in these unprecedented times.
We rely on you as you are relying on us.
